Ministry Opportunities at Good Shepherd

At Good Shepherd we encourage our members to get involved in the community. The ministry opportunities below are an example of the many ways to serve the Lord.

Adult Christian Education
Teach and equip adults to:

 Know God and His Word
Discover their gifts and find their ministries
Apply their faith in their families, relationships and vocations

Art and Graphics
Design church banners, certificates, murals, posters and publications in order to provide a professional appearance and provide a source for ministry directors to illustrate their activities.

Bereavement
Assist families in the congregation who have lost loved ones.

Blood Donation
Coordinate blood donations for individuals and their family members and to coordinate the semi-annual blood drive with the local blood bank.

Children's Ministries
Provide Sunday School for age 3 - 5th grade and Children's Church for age 3 - 2nd grade in order to teach and equip children to know God and His Word.

Communion
Prepare the bread and juice for The Lord's Supper on the first Sunday of each month.

Encouragement
(Three separate ministries that communicate to determine need and action)
Prepare baskets of "goodies" for women of the congregation after the birth of a baby or during hospitalization for serious illness or surgery.

Send cards to members or long-time, consistent attendees of the congregation for death of non-immediate family members and for minor illnesses/surgeries that do not require hospitalization.

Arrange for flowers, plants or balloon bouquets to be sent to members or long-time, consistent attendees of the congregation for births, deaths, serious illnesses and surgeries.

Flock Groups
Foster nurturing relationships between church leaders and members/regular attendees, with the focus on prayer, shepherding and fellowship.

Flowers
Arrange for the provision of flowers for worship services.

Growth Groups
Provide opportunities for friendships, spiritual nurture, outreach and accountability in small groups of 6-18 adults.

Hospitality
Oversee the operation of the kitchen during church dinners, during fellowship time between worship services and for receptions following funerals.

Lawn and Garden
Plan, design, and maintain the church grounds.

Library
Maintain Christian books and tapes for members of the congregation.

Meal-a-Month
Coordinate regular monthly food collection for the Arnold Food Pantry through a predetermined menu.

Mercy
Coordinate short-term assistance for women of the church in times of serious illness or financial need.
Provide Christian support for women in the congregation who have a spiritual or emotional need.

Provide meals on a short-term basis for families and individuals who need extra help as a result of births, deaths, surgery or serious illness.

Music and Worship
Provide music, through songs, hymns and special programs to assist in the worship and praise of God. Children's and adult choirs have seasonal presentations and the worship team (voice and instrumental) participates on a weekly basis at both Sunday services.

Nursery
Provide childcare for children from birth to 36 months of age during worship services, Sunday school and special functions.

Photography
Record the church's activities for display and ultimate preservation in the church archives.

Prayer Chain
Pray for special needs for individuals and their family members.

Pro-Life
Support Missouri Right-to-Life through prayer, annual Life Chain, annual bus caravan to Washington, DC and other rallies that demonstrate a stand for life in our community, state and nation.

Recognition Events
Promote special recognition of key people at Good Shepherd (i.e., pastors, elders and deacons, worship team, children's workers) for their contributions to the church and congregation.

Vacation Bible School
Plan and coordinate VBS each summer for the children of the congregation. This may also be expanded to include children of the neighborhood if resources and space permit.

Visitors and Visitation
Attract, nurture and retain visitors to Good Shepherd as a welcoming place of worship, through greeting teams at Sunday morning worship and follow-up with visitors by telephone and/or visits.

Women's Ministries
Enable and encourage women to grow in their personal relationship with Jesus Christ and with other women in the congregation and to become more fully involved in the ministries of the church.

Youth Ministries
Introduce teenagers to the reality of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through middle school and senior high school Sunday school classes and social/service activities.
